KINWA’s manual lathes are widely used for maintenance, repair and one-off machining, as well as technical education and vocational training. The company lists maintenance and one-off machining, along with technical education and vocational training, among its application areas.

Manual lathes give the operator direct control over tool position and feed, which is useful when the workpiece is unique, the drawing is incomplete, or the part must be measured and adjusted during machining. They are also a practical teaching machine because the relationship between spindle speed, feed, depth of cut and the resulting surface is visible to the operator.

KINWA has also supplied lathes for skills competitions and educational programs. The company states that it was selected as a lathe supplier for the 40th International Skills Competition in Canada in 2009 and later became a supplier for a machine tool teaching equipment procurement project in Taiwan.
